Mercy Oluchi Statter-Okoro


Co-Founder and Trustee of Martha's Dream. At the age of 19 left Nigeria and lived in Japan for 9 years. Returned briefly to Nigeria before getting married and moving to UK in 2000. She currently lives in Morecambe, UK,  and runs her own Cleaning business. She is the youngest daughter of the late Martha Okoro, the inspiration for Martha's Dream.

Mike Statter 


Co-founder and Trustee of Martha's Dream. After serving 5 years in the Royal Engineers, founded a career as a Carpenter & Joiner for the next 21 years. The last 5 years has seen a career change and now supports adults with a variety of needs. From September 2017 will be studying for a BA Hons degree in English Language and Linguistics at UCLAN. 

Luca Canal


Luca comes originally from Italy and is an engineering student at Lancaster University. He joined Martha's dream as trustee in 2017, after meeting Mercy at his part time job. He is currently undertaking a year of working experience in the Energy generation sector and is a trustee at Martha's Dream. 

Lisa Letch


"My name is Lisa and I've been living in Lancaster with my two children, for over 6 years now.  During my time here, I have gained experience, working mainly in the voluntary sector, as a trustee and project worker for a local food bank and homeless shelter.  I became a trustee with Martha's Dream about a year ago and have assisted, on a number of occasions, with the planning and arrangement of the yearly fundraising event."

"Before starting my role at Martha's Dream Academy I had been teaching at Primary and Secondary schools allover the World since I finished school. Around 10 years age I moved back to Nigeria where I married my wife, had two children a nd worked as a detective. Being the son of Martha and a Native of this village gives me the strengths to work every day harder to achieve my mother's dream and give a bright future to our students".

Deborah Ifeoma Onuwuka

Primary 1 and 2 Teacher 

"My name is Onwuka Deborah Ifeoma, I'm a Nigerian. I am a trained teacher and currently working at Martha's Dream Academy. Prior to this I had been gathering strong experience teaching in many schools in the State. The challenges that my work at the school involves are helping me to grow as a professional and enable the school to prosper, but all he effort is balanced by the satisfaction that my students give me."

"My name is Oyiriaru Lilian Uzochukwuamaka the Headmistress Martha's Dream Academy.  I was the first teacher when  the school firstly opened and since then have had a good and nice experience with the children. Our teaching is gradually creating a good impact in the children and in the village. Everyday I come to school with joy and enthusiasm, knowing that my job is helping hundreds of lives. "

Nwakile Chinaemerem Adaeze

Placement teacher under civil service scheme 

She joined Martha's Dream Academy for the year 2017-2018 under the civil service scheme run by the Nigerian government, studies French and languages at University and is taking a year out between her studies. 
Introducing young and motivated volunteers will help boosting the quality of teaching. 

Ogunbayo Kehinde

Placement teacher under civil service scheme

He is another of the teachers under training come to the School for a Placement year. He studies Computer Science at University and with his strong numeracy skills he will be aiding the teaching of maths and sciences as well as introducing children that have never seen a computer in their life to Computer theory.
